Each of the exercises is done to 5 different rhythms. These are quarter notes, eighth notes, swung-eighth notes, triplets and sixteenths. Listen to/ watch the demos to get an idea.
Level 15x5 Alternate - At this stage you practice all 5 string sets with all 5 rhythms, using alternate picking. This means that all notes are plucked, and that you pluck down then up continuously.
Level 25x5 Legato - At this stage you practice all 5 string sets with all 5 rhythms like before, but now you play legato. This means that on the way up, you pluck the first note on a given string, then hammer on the next note with the left hand. On the way down, you pluck the first note on a given string, then pull off to make the next note sound.
Level 3Down on ups, Up on downs - Play descending groups of four as you ascend from pattern 1 to pattern 5, and ascending groups of four on the way from 5 to 1.
Level 4Up, slide, down, slide - Now we incorporate a slide to get to the next position, and then go in the opposite direction. Watch the demo to get the idea.

Video Demo
The video demo shows only the first string set - strings 1 and 2.
So you can see how this is applied to the other string sets, we've also showed the second string set, strings 2 and 3, at Level 1ii.
Move the left hand between positions without tensing or re-angling the hand. The arm simply moves up the fretboard without changing the wrist angle.
Again, pay attention to the slower speeds and keep good form.
